Mount Carmel New Ross Lace was a highly sought-after luxury status symbol to be worn by the wealthiest people in Europe, to embellish ecclesiastical robes and altars and to decorate the homes of the rich.

However, its roots lay in a vision to alleviate poverty and provide a means of employment for some of the poorest women in New Ross.

The Carmelite Nuns dedicate this website to the memories of these talented lace makers whose dedicated hard work supported their families and brought glory to New Ross.

“Glory be to him whose power, working in us can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine”

(Ephesians 3: 20)
